¿Por qué atrapa tanto el Mundial de Fútbol?

Why is the World Cup so captivating?
It's not just twenty-two people running after a ball; if it were, it wouldn't have the power to paralyze entire cities, freeze a country's productivity for ninety minutes, or bring thousands together in front of a screen, regardless of the heat or cold. Football is, in essence, the most perfect dramatic narrative ever invented: it has no predictable script, the underdog can topple the giant in the blink of an eye, and justice -or the lack thereof- is dispensed in real time, in full view of everyone.
when the World Cup arrives, that familiar magnetism mutates into something much more massive and visceral. It's so appealing because it transcends the purely sporting aspect. It's a catalyst for collective rituals. People who haven't watched a match in four years suddenly find themselves discussing tactics, wearing the team's jersey, and sharing a hug with a complete stranger. The tournament offers, in a packaged and intense way, the opportunity to belong to a global tribe. At once, it embodies the aesthetics of drama and epic storytelling, because every match is a potential final, an opportunity for glory, or a stark sporting tragedy. It's modern Greek mythology: fallen heroes, rising stars, and the collective illusion that history is about to be written before our very eyes.
In a hyperconnected and fragmented world, the World Cup functions as one of the few remaining unifying events. It manages to synchronize the clocks and emotions of millions at the same time, creating a pause in the daily grind. Understanding this phenomenon goes beyond tactical analysis or physical performance. Football captivates because it's a mirror of the human condition: it seeks glory, fears failure, celebrates collective effort, and, above all, gives us the beautiful illusion that, for a month, everything else can wait while the ball rolls.
