El deporte en la sociedad contemporánea

Sport in Contemporary Society
Sport has accompanied human societies for thousands of years and has a significant impact on our culture, health and well-being, proving to be much more than a simple pastime. Its contributions to quality of life, and the promotion of social inclusion and equality, since people of different ages, genders and abilities can participate and compete together, make it a practice of enormous relevance.
It also has a notable economic and social impact, since the sports industry generates thousands of jobs around the world, from professional athletes and coaches to support staff, marketing and event management. In addition, it can be a driver of social development by promoting the construction of sports infrastructure, improving the image of a community and fostering national pride. Sport has also been a privileged stage to denounce discrimination, inequality and violence. Through various initiatives, awareness has been raised on important issues such as gender equality, the inclusion of people with disabilities and the fight against racism. By promoting values and fostering inclusion and contributing to health, education, the economy and social change, it generates a positive impact on communities. The commitment of all those involved – athletes, educators, coaches, applied professionals, specialized journalists, leaders and the public attending sporting events – is essential for it to remain an essential part of the human experience and valuable culture.
