Parenting with Awareness
When Attention to the Child Goes Beyond Indulging Them and Fosters Emotional Autonomy
Abstract
The goal of parenting is to raise conscious individuals, not just obedient ones. Many parents confuse well-being with the absence of conflict, fostering complacency. Teaching children to listen to themselves involves encouraging reflection and self-awareness so they can recognize their emotions, desires, and boundaries without depending on external approval. Obedience must be distinguished from understanding, explaining the reasons behind the rules. Practicing silence and observation is vital for children to articulate their inner world. Avoiding overprotection and allowing for minor frustrations builds resilience. Effort should be reinforced more than results, and parents should be role models of self-care. The key is to guide, not mold, so that children learn to value their inner voice and make conscious decisions, achieving an authentic and balanced adult life.
