Active Leisure and Mental Rest for Athletes

  • Mía Pizarro Independiente

Abstract

Modern athletic training transcends the physical by integrating psychology and the management of mental fatigue. Research shows that cognitive exhaustion reduces performance, requiring a training periodization plan that includes mental rest. Leisure, especially digital or nature-based leisure, facilitates recovery through involuntary attention. Thus, strategic disconnection and psychological well-being are now essential pillars for optimizing athletic capacity and ensuring full recovery.
