Physical Activity and Mental Health: A Fundamental Relationship for Holistic Well-being
Abstract
Physical activity is an essential therapeutic and preventative tool in the face of the global increase in mental disorders. Scientifically, regular exercise reduces depression and anxiety through neurochemical mechanisms -such as the release of endorphins and serotonin- and neurogenesis processes. Psychologically, it strengthens self-efficacy and social interaction. For health and sports professionals, the challenge lies in designing individualized programs that prioritize enjoyment and adherence. Integrating movement into daily routines is a fundamental public health strategy for holistic well-being.
