Motivation to Practice Cross Training in a Training Center
Abstract
Introduction: In recent years, extreme conditioning programs such as cross training have gained widespread adherence, standing out for their intensity and functional approach. Objective: To identify the motivational factors of cross training practitioners based on the Self-Determination Theory and from the perspective of sports management. Method: A total of 143 individuals participated, with a mean age of 33.7 years, who answered the MPAM-R scale - a validated instrument to measure motives for physical activity practice. Results: The main motivational factors identified were Health and Enjoyment, followed by Competence, Appearance, and lastly, the Social aspect. Statistical analysis (Kruskal-Wallis, p≤0.05) revealed significant differences among most factors. Health emerged as the predominant factor, associated with the pursuit of physical and mental well-being, while enjoyment highlighted the importance of pleasurable training experiences. Although present, the Social factor was less determinant, suggesting that individual motivation and personal performance have greater weight. These findings indicate that sports managers should prioritize strategies that enhance health, promote engaging training environments, and encourage individual achievement. Final Considerations: Personalized motivational approaches and continuous monitoring of practitioners’ needs are essential for long-term retention and engagement. The study also highlights opportunities for public policies aimed at promoting physical activity, contributing to the sustainability of sports programs and population well-being.
