The Impact of Soccer in Mexico: Passion, Culture, and Development

  • Mía Pizarro Independiente

Abstract

Soccer in Mexico is much more than a sport; it is a pillar of national identity, rooted in tradition and passed down through generations. Teams like América and Chivas generate passionate communities. The national team unites the country in international competitions, contrasting with the individual passion for clubs in Liga MX, one of the strongest in Latin America, which also includes a growing women's league. In addition to its economic impact, soccer functions as a social tool, fostering values and offering opportunities to marginalized communities. The World Cups held in Mexico have left an indelible mark, and the participation of Mexican clubs in international tournaments elevates their global prestige. Ultimately, soccer is a cultural and social phenomenon that will continue to shape Mexican passion.
