Perceived Self-Efficacy in Organizing School Excursions. A study with Prospective Physical Education Teachers
Abstract
This study analyzed the self-efficacy perceptions of 66 fourth-year students on the Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching with a specialization in Physical Education at the University of Extremadura regarding the organization of school trips. A descriptive quantitative design was employed, using a 30-item questionnaire on a 5-point Likert scale. The data were processed using IBM SPSS Statistics software via descriptive analyses, following the recoding of items formulated in the negative. The results were structured into four dimensions: pedagogical, planning and logistics, administrative and management, and evaluation and improvement. In general terms, the students exhibited moderate-to-high levels of self-efficacy (M > 3.5). The pedagogical dimension received the highest scores, with particular confidence in maintaining a positive attitude towards students (M = 4.27). Conversely, the lowest scores were found in logistical planning and administrative management, particularly in drawing up excursion plans (M = 2.56) and obtaining permits (M = 2.73). Furthermore, it was found that previous experience in organizing field trips was associated with higher levels of self-efficacy (p < 0.05). It is concluded that there is a need to strengthen initial teacher training in organizational, administrative and practical aspects, with a focus on real-world experiences that boost professional confidence in planning educational activities outside the classroom.
