Inclusive Physical Education for Student with Motor Disabilities

Abstract

The research addressed the educational inclusion of students with motor functional diversity in Physical Education in Ecuador, specifically in the province of Guayas, which concentrated 25.3% of the national population with physical alterations. The case study was a 15-year-old adolescent with left transtibial amputation, for whom adaptive pedagogical strategies were implemented through a deliberate transformative action aimed at optimizing her multidimensional development. The methodology adopted a qualitative educational action-research design with an exploratory-descriptive scope. The intervention was structured following the typical action-research cycle: diagnosis, action and evaluation. This methodological design made it possible to understand the inclusion processes in Physical Education classes and to develop specific didactic strategies to facilitate effective inclusion, constituting a paradigmatic example to examine inclusive processes from educational and motor perspectives. The objective of this research was to develop a didactic strategy that would facilitate the effective inclusion of students with physical motor disabilities in Physical Education (PE) classes, promoting their integral development and transforming pedagogical practices in educational contexts. This objective was approached through a qualitative action-research design, which allowed not only to understand the experiences lived by the participants, but also to generate significant changes in the educational practice through a cyclical process of planning, action, observation and reflection.
