Beyond the Track: Inclusive Sport as a Bridge to Equality, Hope, and Social Transformation

Abstract

Inclusive physical activity has become a topic of growing interest due to its multiple benefits for people with disabilities. In the case of Down syndrome, participation in physical activity programs promotes motor development, socialization, and emotional well-being. This study aims to analyze the benefits of physical activity in people with Down syndrome through a systematic literature review. Previous studies addressing the impact of exercise on this population were collected and analyzed, identifying positive effects on autonomy, self-esteem, and quality of life. Despite these advantages, barriers to accessibility and the implementation of adequate programs persist. The research suggests the need to promote inclusive strategies that encourage the active participation of people with Down syndrome in adapted physical activities.
