AMD Faces Serious Security and Trust Issues

Abstract

AMD is at a critical moment due to a series of problems that affect its reputation and position in the market. Its main problems are a massive security breach when confidential data is stolen, including specifications of future products; questionable methods were used to artificially improve the performance of their CPUs in benchmarks; and customers have reported difficulty obtaining repairs or refunds for defective products. As a consequence, there is a loss of confidence which results in a drop in market value and a reduction in prices to try to regain credibility with its consumers. AMD's future depends on how they respond to these problems. If they can improve transparency, product safety, and customer service, they could have a chance to regain public trust.
