Correlation between the Coronary Risk Questionnaire and waist-hip ratio in gym practitioners
Abstract
This study aimed to correlate the Coronary Risk Questionnaire and Waist-Hip Ratio (WHR) in gym practitioners in the city of Nova Iguaçu, RJ. The research is descriptive, correlational, quantitative and transversal. Were evaluated 30 individuals of both sexes, aged between 18 and 58 years old. For the analysis of the results were used the program SPSS version 19.0. Spearman's correlation coefficient was used to compare the variables. The following results regarding the questionnaire were found: 73.3% presented moderate risk and 26.7% below the average risk. For the WHR: 40% presented moderate risk, 33.3% below the average, 16.7% high and 10% too high. When analyzed by gender women presented 62.5% moderate risk and 37.5% below the average risk for the questionnaire; and 37.5% moderate, 31.25% below de average, 18.75% high and 12.5% too high for the WHR. The men presented 85.7% moderate risk and 14.3% below the average risk for the questionnaire; and 42.9% moderate, 35.7% below the average, 14.3% high and 7.1% too high for the WHR. When comparing the variables the following values were found: r = -0.041 and p = 0.828 in the overall analysis; for males (r = -0.108; p = 0.713); and for women (r = 0.015; p = 0.057). It is concluded that for the assessment of coronary risk, for both variables, individuals were classified with moderate risk, and the variables do not correlate with each other.
