Abstract

Fencing, as a combat sport, has accompanied humanity since early ancient times. In the sports school of Sancti Spíritus fencing has continued developing its skills in all of its three modalities. Objective: Speed reaction study during the activity of competition in schooling foil athletes at the sports school of Sancti Spíritus province. Methods: observation and analysis of 21 combats of the 7 foil athletes from the sports school of Sancti Spíritus during a classifying internal control to be participated in the schooling competition in 2017. Results: in the parameter number 1 “the distant sense of the defender in reaction to the preparatory” action of the attacker¨ only the 25 % of low effectiveness is achieved; in parameter number 2 “distant sense of reaction of the defender in reaction to attack action” 13 positive reactions are achieved by means of keeping the distance of the attacker not to be touched (34.2% of effectiveness is achieved); parameter number 3 “time perception in defending actions (contra attack)” (46.2% of effectiveness). Conclusions: a deficiency of the pre competitive preparation in the speed reaction of the schooling foil athletes at the sports school of Sancti Spíritus province is perceived.
