What Wearables Reveal About Training and Recovery in 2026
Abstract
Wearables provide extensive training data, but it is essential to distinguish between direct measurements and algorithmic estimates. Heart rate, pace, power, and volume are the most useful metrics for adjusting sessions, showing higher accuracy during steady-state activities. Conversely, indicators such as heart rate variability (HRV), estimated VO2, sleep stages, and recovery scores rely on mathematical models. Their value lies in tracking long-term trends rather than replacing laboratory tests or driving immediate workout decisions.
