Abstract

American professional sports are facing federal accusations of illegal betting involving NBA and MLB stars in match-fixing and leaking information. Fueled by hyper-competitiveness, readily available money, and easy access to online platforms with prop bet, the phenomenon highlights a systemic problem. Studies confirm that athletes are more prone to gambling, driven by the constant pursuit of adrenaline and competition.
