Abstract

Located in the Comayagua Cathedral in Honduras, the oldest working gear clock in the world dates back to approximately 1100. Made in Spain by the Moors and brought to the Americas in 1636, this wrought iron mechanism surpasses the Salisbury Clock in age and complexity. Thanks to maintenance by local experts and a restoration in 2007, its gears continue to mark hours and quarter-hours with admirable precision, defying the passage of time.
