How do Slalom and Downhill Skiing in Alpine Skiing Demand Completely Different Skills?

  • Francisco Baldinelli Independiente

Abstract

Skiing encompasses contrasting disciplines. Slalom rewards technique, tight turns, and quick reactions in two runs of tight turns. Downhill, on the other hand, prioritizes speeds exceeding 130 km/h, aerodynamics, and stability on jumps over a single long run. The difference in equipment, physical preparation, and strategy means that a slalom specialist rarely excels in downhill, and vice versa.
