The Epigraph and the Potrero. Anthropological Notes on the Road to a Final against Europe

  • Julián Ponisio Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA)

Abstract

The author re-examines his analysis of sporting colonization. He warns that appealing to "grit" is a self-deception that reduces to genetics what was actually a historical learning process on the "potrero”. This field did not represent a mystique, but rather an informal and rigorous school that taught dribbling, cunning, and character. Believing that talent is innate hinders its pedagogical transmission, while the premature professionalization of children's soccer destroys the creative breeding ground of tomorrow.
