Deposit Limits in iGaming: A Key Strategy in Spain

  • Francisco Baldinelli Independiente

Abstract

Spain will revolutionize iGaming regulation in 2025, replacing the current per-operator deposit limits with a centralized joint deposit limit system. This change, managed by the Directorate General for Gambling Observation (DGOJ) through the "Player Portal" and the Joint Deposit Limit System (SLCD), seeks to eliminate restriction circumvention, as 56% of multi-operator players who exceed limits are big losers. Limit reductions will be instantaneous, and increases will require a seven-day wait. License guarantees will be increased to €2.4 million, and AI will be used to detect problem gambling. Spain aims to lead player protection in Europe.
