Adapted Training Program in a Young Person with Prader-Willi Syndrome. Case Study

Abstract

The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an adapted training program in a 14-year-old boy with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS), focusing on improving his physical fitness, metabolic control and quality of life. The methodology adopted a quantitative approach, using a single-case design with pre- and post-intervention measurements over 24 weeks. Standardized techniques were implemented to evaluate physical, anthropometric, metabolic and emotional variables, ensuring a systematic and objective analysis of the results. The findings showed significant improvements in multiple dimensions. In physical terms, increases in muscle strength, postural stability and functional autonomy were observed, facilitating the performance of daily activities. Regarding metabolic parameters, a notable reduction in body mass index, fasting glucose and cholesterol levels was achieved, highlighting the effectiveness of the nutritional and educational component. In addition, the emotional and social dimensions showed considerable progress, reflected in a greater perception of well-being and personal autonomy. The system adapted training program is a comprehensive and effective intervention to address the limitations associated with PWS. Although the limitations of a single case study restrict the generalizability of the results, this work highlights the feasibility of customized programs in local contexts, promoting the inclusion and well-being of individuals with PWS. The main objective of the research was to evaluate the effectiveness of an adapted training program in a young man with Prader-Willi syndrome, considering functional, motor and quality of life variables.
