Relationship between Vertical Jump and the 30-Meter Sprint Test in Sprinters
Abstract
Performance in vertical jumps, such as the Squat Jump (SJ) and Counter Movement Jump (CMJ), shows a strong correlation with sprint tests. However, there is a scarcity of research focusing on medium-level sprinters in Curitiba that explores the relationship between vertical jump metrics and performance in the 30-meter sprint. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between vertical jump metrics (SJ and CMJ) and performance in the 30-meter sprint test among sprinters. This was an observational, analytical, and cross-sectional study. Sixteen sprinters from Curitiba, with a mean age of 22.8 (±1.77) years and an average time of 3.27 seconds (±0.12 seconds) in the 30-meter sprint, performed SJ and CMJ tests using a CEFISE Jump System Contact Mat. A Photocell System measured the 30-meter sprint times. The agreement and reliability of the jump and sprint attempts were calculated using the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC). Data analysis was conducted using Jamovi software version 2.3.38, with a significance level of 5%. Statistically significant and strong correlations were found between the jump heights in SJ and CMJ, as well as between power per kilogram of body mass. It was concluded that the metrics from the SJ and CMJ jumps are not related to performance in the 30-meter sprint test and that relative strength, along with power, should be considered by coaches in training planning.
