A Statistical Analysis of the 2023 Beach Soccer America's Cup Results

Abstract

Beach Soccer is a variant of soccer played on a flat sand surface that has gained international popularity since its creation in the late 1980s. However, since 2005 this sport has spread to the point that Countries and clubs have international competitions such as the America's Cup. Objective: It consisted of analyzing the Beach Soccer America's Cup tournament, in which 10 national teams participated in 2023, in relation to how the goals were scored, which began with prepared plays and passes or shots by the goalkeeper. The Methodology involved analyzing data from 27 matches, extracted from the official America's Cup YouTube channel through the highlights, and the official America's Cup website. Results: Among the main results, the percentage of scoring a goal stands out: dead ball 20%, chilena 14%, head 11% and regular plays 30%. Brazil and Colombia are the teams that received the fewest goals against with 7% and the same ones with the most goals in favor, Brazil 24% and Paraguay 16%, of the 226 goals in said competition. Conclusions: Due to factors that have to do with the field of play, dead ball shooting and regular plays are the most common options for scoring. It is important to continue with research projects in this sport, for its growth and greater understanding.
