Judo as an Inclusive Physical Activity: Movement Opportunities for Unfamiliar Bodies

Abstract

Sports practices leverage enterprises on the five continents, allowing people to participate in them, whether in the competitive, leisure, educational or even for a better quality of life. In the search for a better quality of life, sports practices, and adapted/inclusive physical activities for people with disabilities are included. General objective: To show the relevance of the practice of judo for people with disabilities, as it promotes neuropsychomotor development. Specific objectives: a) To enunciate the importance that the inclusive educational dimension of judo promotes in people with disabilities, leading them to physical, mental, and social improvements; b) identify judo as a physical and sports activity that promotes benefits to people with disabilities through interactions, decision-making and task achievements. Method: A literature review was conducted on the SciELO, PubMed, Lilacs and Scopus platforms on judo, psychomotricity, philosophy, sport and social inclusion, and readings focused on the issues of inclusion of people with disabilities. Result: evidence was found about the need to use body movements for a superior quality of life, whether in the physical, cognitive, or social dimension of people with ASD and other intellectual disabilities. Sports practices are the most prominent, as they use motor skills and competences. Conclusion: evidence from studies was found on the importance of inclusive physical and sports activities in the daily lives of people with disabilities. The emergence of the implementation of physical activity programs has been promoted for the people with disabilities to participate, effecting the process of social inclusion.
