Comparison between Flexion-Distraction and Gonstead Technique for Low Back Pain, Disability and Flexibility
Abstract
The present study was characterized as a quantitative research of case series, aiming to verify what is the comparison between low back pain and flexibility of the trunk and lower limbs in patients submitted to chiropractic treatment with the Flexion-Distraction technique or Gonstead technique. The sample was non-probabilistically selected, totaling 4 male patients, with a mean age of 36 years who had never received chiropractic care, or who had not received chiropractic care in the last 3 months and who had acute or chronic low back pain. To evaluate disability and low back pain, the Oswestry 2.0 questionnaire was used before any intervention. To assess the level of flexibility of the lower back and lower limbs, the Wells seat linear test was used at two different times, before and after the chiropractic intervention with the Flexion-Distraction technique or Gonstead technique. After 7 days, the Global Rating of Scale Classification (GROC) questionnaire was used to check low back pain compared to the previous one, as well as the Wells seat Linear Test to compare it with its previous measurements. It was concluded, at the end of this research, that both chiropractic techniques used proved to be satisfactory in reducing acute and chronic low back pain and in gaining flexibility in the trunk and lower limbs.
