Clinical and Laboratory Analysis of Dialytic Patients in a Reference Hospital in the Amazon
Abstract
Introduction: Hormonal and mineral changes are a major challenge in the treatment of chronic kidney patients undergoing hemodialysis. Objective: To analyze the social, clinical characteristics and the evolution of parathyroid hormone, total calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D in dialysis patients in the years 2017 and 2018. Methods: The sample consisted of 105 medical records of patients on hemodialysis in a reference hospital in Santarem-PA. Sociodemographic and clinical information were collected in the year 2017, as well as laboratory data for the years 2017 and 2018. The data were tabulated and analyzed according to descriptive and inferential statistics, adopting p <0.05. Results: A higher frequency was found for males, aged over 47 years, married, mixed race and with normal body mass index. The most frequent underlying etiologies were systemic arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus and chronic glomerulonephritis. In 2017, total calcium had a higher proportion of adequate values, as well as vitamin D in 2017 and 2018. Already phosphorus and parathyroid hormone had a predominance of altered values in 2017 and 2018. Conclusion: In addition to the high frequency of changes for phosphorus and parathyroid hormone throughout the analyzed period, there was a positive association between the change in phosphate and the change in total calcium and age <55 years for the change in parathyroid hormone.
