Abstract

The present study has as central issue the reflection about Physical Education (PE) at school practices culture known as "laissez-faire" activities. The research and analysis of the data was carried out from the qualitative/ descriptive approach, throughout semi-structured interview protocol. Eleven students at seventh grade from primary education were interviewed, and their PE school teacher in inner area of São Paulo State in Brazil. The results showed the students' resistance in overcoming that “laissez-faire” free and recreational classes culture. From the moment when that teacher had conquered her space and students confidence, the students' need for the teacher's commitment to the content to be taught is observed, concluding that it is extremely important that they learn new activities, cultures, games and activities which arouse interest in both genders.
