Comparison of body adiposity index of school at different growth rate peaks
Abstract
The present study aimed to compare the body adiposity index (BAI) of schoolchildren at different growth rate (PGR) peaks. The intentional sample consisted of 40 male schoolchildren from the city of Três Barras/SC. Subjects were divided into three groups (before, during and after PGR). To calculate the PGR, age (A) and anthropometric data of leg length (LL), trunk-cephalic height (CH), body mass (BM) and height (H) were collected. In order to calculate BAI, height (already mentioned) and hip circumference (HC) were collected. Data were normal using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. After that, the central tendency tests (mean and standard deviation) were performed. To compare the data, ANOVA one-way ANOVA and Tukey post hoc analysis were used to determine the differences between the groups evaluated, with a significance level set at p <0.05. The results showed significant differences between the group during PGR for the group before PGR in the A, BM, H, LL, TC, and HC variables. The group after PGR presented significant differences for the group before in the variables of A, BM, H, LL,CH and HC. Regarding the comparisons between the group after the group during significant values were found in the BM, CH and HC variables. In the comparison of BAI in the different PGRs, no significant differences were found between the groups evaluated. It is concluded that there are no significant differences in the BAI of school children in different PGRs.
